Modified Rubber roofing / granulated

Modified rubber is a great application used on a roof with little to no pitch.
It comes with a smooth black finish and granulated in all different colors.
The asphalt is melted onto the roof using a torch, creating an impermeable roof
that has an average life of between 15 and 20 years. It is ideal for flat roofs because of
the protection  it offers from rainwater that might collect on the surface.
Scott Morrow Of Scott Morrow Slate & Tile Roofing In Atlanta Has Provided us with
these pictures to use as a illustration.
First The old roof is removed then they put down a insulated board. Then it is covered in a felt paper that is lightly covered in sand That helps absorb the extreme heat coming from the torch that is used to apply it.

Modified rubber roofing system is a great solution for roofs with little to no pitch but it is also a cheaper avenue one could go if need be.
Modified bitumen is essentially rolls of black product that overlap one another to form a water tight barrier. These rolls are "modified" with polymers giving it rubber or plastic like qualities. The surface of modified roofing is mostly smooth, however there are many products on the market now that come granulated. This is where some type of slag is applied often roofing granules to achieve a color match with an asphalt roofing shingle.

  1. Deciding on a roof and the material is important. It needs to be a material that is durable, cost effective, easy to maintain and does the job of sealing the structure. One option is rubber roofing, which is a material that is starting to get widespread use.
